Welcome to the Rice County Park and Trail Master Plan Social Pinpoint map! The County is beginning to develop a plan for the future of County parks and trails. We are interested in learning about what County residents and visitors want to see for facilities, amenities, programs, and natural resources.
Rice County’s park system includes 13 parks of varying sizes, including the Cannon River Wilderness Area and Caron Park, consisting of 1,100 acres of total parkland. The park system features over 12 miles of interior park trails for hiking, mountain biking, equestrian, and cross country skiing, as well as access to the Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail. There is also a popular RV campground as well as 4 primitive hike or canoe-in camp sites, and access to the Cannon River State Water Trail for canoeing and kayaking. Additional water activities include a swimming beach and 5 fishing piers throughout the County Parks. There are also numerous picnic shelters, playgrounds, horseshoe pits, a wildlife and bird sanctuary, parking areas, and various other park amenities.
Previous engagement was conducted in 2010 during the last Rice County Parks Plan process, and in 2016 with the County Comprehensive Plan process. This engagement indicated a desire for more trails and bikeways, restrooms in parks, more natural resource conversation areas throughout the County, and a greater marketing and awareness of County parks and what they offer.
